The difference between a meteor and a meteorite is that a meteor is a rock floating in space. A meteor can go through the atnosphere and hit the ground. Then it is considered a meteorite.

In the 1920's there was a farmer who hit something with his tractor and look to dee what is was. He dug down and found a meteorite that was recorded as the biggest meteorite in the world. It weighed 66 tons and was an iron meteorite and it weighed 66 tons and left NO CRATOR! A meteorite the big could easily go through the atmosphere and make a huge crator . But this one didn't. The meteorite was found in South America and it was named the Hoba meteorite because the farmer that found it was named Hoba West.
10% of meteorites are stone the other 90 % are iron and ston iron and stony iron. :)
